How can an EU Citizen obtain a visa for travelling to the Russian Federation?

EU Citizens, in order to have the right of entry into the Russian Federation, must first obtain a Russian Visa. A Visa to the Russian Federation is a document, permitting stay in Russia for a specific period of time. To achieve the obtainment of such Visa, the following list of documentation has to be submitted to the Russian Embassy, of the applicant’s country.

  • Application Form;
  • Passport (the passport has to be valid for at least 6 months, following the Visa’s expiration date and has to contain at least 2 blank pages);
  • EU citizens residing in Cyprus have to present a Residence Permit with a period of legal stay in the Republic of Cyprus exceeding 3 months;
  • One recent passport size photograph;
  • Travel Insurance;
  • An invitation from the Russian Federation;

Private Visa

Original Invitation Letter, issued by the Russian Federal Migration Service.
In cases of urgent trips for medical reasons, a certificate from a medical institution is considered to be sufficient.
 

Business/ Humanitarian Visa

 

Invitation Letter, issued by a Russian host entity.
The letter must contain the following details:
For the Applicant: Name, Date of Birth, Citizenship, Passport No., Time and Purpose of the Trip and the Number of Entries.
For the Inviting Organization: Full Name, Address, Name and Signature of the authorized to invite foreigners to Russia person.
 

Working Visa

 

Invitation Letter, issued by the Russian Federal Migration Service or a telex from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Study Visa

 

Invitation Letter, issued by the Russian Federal Migration Service or a telex from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Tourist Visa

(duration: 1 month maximum)

 

Tourist Voucher and Confirmation of Reception of Foreigners, issued by the booked hotel or the travel agent, stamped and signed by the authorized person.
Tourists travelling on cruise ships can remain in the country, without a Visa for up to 72 hours and leave the ship only as part of an organized tourist group. Tourists who wish to leave the ship on their own or in a group of less than 5 tourists must obtain a Visa.
 

Transit Visa

(not required for the airport’s transit zone for a stay not exceeding 24 hours)
